Carnival of Home Improvement

It has been a while since I participated in a Blog Carnival but I really want to participate in the Carnival of Home Improvement. As you saw in my previous post we are trying to decide which flooring to put down. I'm hoping that by participating in this carnival I can start getting some input from people who are also improving their house or know a lot about the subject. If you are interested please click the above link and check out the Carnival of Home Improvement!

To Pergo or not to Pergo?

That is our question! We are in the middle of a floor situation and I need many, many comments from everyone who reads this post! We have had a floor detail done through Lowe's and we were planning on putting in some Pergo. The people at Lowe's said Pergo is very durable and will last for a while, plus there is a 25 year warranty. I then start reading on the internet and read multiple reviews of people saying avoid Pergo it is awful and will scratch very easily. So I started getting concerned that we were making the wrong choice. I called Home Depot to get an opinion from someone who works there. I also asked a guy who is putting in our french doors about it. So far all of those people have said to not put in Pergo. So I started calling friends. I have a couple friends with Pergo and they love it! But, it isn't in their dining room, and that is where we wanted to put it. I read some more reviews today and all those people really liked the pergo and were glad they had put it in their house. Now I am looking for more review, comments and advice on whether to go forward without Pergo choice or to try and switch to something else. We can't get hardwood because that would totally break the budget. So please offer an comment you can about the Pergo!

Should we put Pergo in our Kitchen and Dining room?
Yes
No

Online Coupons

If you are like me then you may not be getting any coupons in the mail. I don't take a newspaper so I don't receive coupons. I do like to use coupons though so I rely on online coupons to help save me some money and get be some good bargains. Coupon Chief is a great site to visit to find a variety of online coupons.

Some of my favorite coupons on the site are from Target. I have been buying a lot of home decor from Target lately and so I really like getting a discount there. Also, as it is summer we have been doing a lot of gardening so coupons for Spring Hill Nursery are really nice as well. They also have some great Home Depot coupons if you are doing some home improvement. We have been doing a lot of projects around the house so I'm definitely printing off some of these coupons.

If you know you are going to be making some big purchases soon but don't have a coupon, be sure to check out Coupon Chief and see if you can find yourself a little bargain. There are many, many stores to choose from so check it out. Saving money and getting what you want are great!

Sponsors

I love sponsors and sponsored posts. Some people think it a tragedy to be paid to write on their blog. I think it is innovative and entrepreneurial. My husband works full time and I stay home with our baby. I feel it is important for me to contribute to our finances in some way. Of course the money I make online will never compare to my salary, but it does provide some "fun" money. I really appreciate the paid opportunities I get to post like this one that is sponsored by Navtej, facebook profile for Navtej, Linkedin Navtej, Yahoo user Navtej, and Navtej wordpress blog.

Metal Pegboard

Did you know that metal pegboards now come in many different materials and styles. They can hold a lot of weight meaning they can be used in a traditional manner to hold your power tools, or you can use it with more style and hang your pots and pans. I would use my metal peg board to hold my paint brushes. As I have taken up a new hobby of painting and I have many different styles and sizes, I would use my pegboard to hang them up and keep them nice and neat. What would you use your pegboard for?

My Paintings

These are my three paintings for my guest bedroom. I have never painted before so it was something fun and new to try. It was a ton of fun to paint them and I hope to make some more for our other rooms as we decorate them.

The Guest Room

The night we moved into the house we decided to start our home improvements while we waited for the movers to arrive with our things. We were surprised to find 2 layers of wall paper on the wall we were tackling. The first layer came off without a hitch. The second layer was more stubborn.

We painted the room a light gray called "fired steel"

This is some of the new furniture and accessories that we have decorated the room with. We aren't completely finished in there. We still need to hang the curtains and make the bed with our new comforter set.

I love my connection!

YAY We're connected again! It has been a very long 10 days without the internet but the cable guy came today and TA DA! Here we are!! We have never had the internet through the cable line before so we'll see how it goes but so far so good. I even hooked it up by myself since my hubby is at work and I NEEDED to get connected!

So just an update. We are moved into our house. A lot of our things are still in boxes and other things are put away. It is a slow process but a very exciting one. I'm going to be putting some before and after shots on the blog because we have already painted a guest room and made it nice and pretty. There is a lot more to be done. We are getting a new storm door for the front door, we are putting in french doors, and if we can figure out how to pull up the vinyl floors in the kitchen we will be putting in some nice pergo floors! I'm very excited about all the home improvements that are happening.

Now that we are back up and running I'm planning to begin posting a lot more often and all shall return to better than normal! So please become my loyal readers once again and we will have a great time!

West Nile here we come!

I have found many benefits to moving out of California and into Kansas. Some of those being: a lack of smog, lack of traffic, friendly people, affordable housing and list probably goes on. One of the very big downsides is all the BUGS! They are bigger and they are everywhere! There is a particularly huge problem with mosquitoes here. Today we went over to the house to water some flowers so they would die and I was getting eaten alive! I cannot believe the amount of mosquitoes around here. We are going to have to buy a ton of those bug away candles and a lot of bug repellent.

I'm living "Super Size Me"

As I reflect on life living in a hotel it occured to me a couple days ago that we are basically living the movie "Super Size Me." We are constantly going out to eat and when we aren't eating out we are eating frozen food which is equally unhealthy. I have noticed in the past 3 weeks or so of living here that I have gained a couple pounds and I very much look forward to moving in our house. We very excitedly closed on our house yesterday and have started moving things from the hotel into the house today. Tomorrow we will be kicked out of the hotel due to overbooking and we will begin our new lives in our own home. Our things will hopefully arrive this weekend and we can get all settled in. I'm excited to be cooking in a kitchen again and eating healthy and losing the hotel weight. I feel very unhealthy with all the food we have been eating. My husband's family have all been having a walking contest to get us all prepared for the walking we will be doing when we go to Walt Disney World and I have had a hard time doing well because the eating out makes me feel sluggish. I can totally relate to that movie in a bad way and I can't wait to get out of this situation and back into "normal" life.
