Flash Back Friday- Bacteria

Welcome to this week's edition of Flash Back Friday! This article from last year was written be my husband. At his previous job he worked too far from home to come home at lunch time so he had to eat lunch at his desk. That must have been lonely. Now that we have moved and got a new job he comes home everyday for lunch so hopefully we don't have this gross problem at our kitchen table.

Me and My Bacteria

I use to think that I ate lunch alone, at my desk, but according to professor Charles Gerba of the University of Arizona I am sharing my lunch with millions of germs and bacteria. To put it bluntly he says " The average office desktop has 400 times more bacteria than the average office toilet seat." I eat my lunch at my desk every day!!!! I could hardly believe what I was reading; so basically if I ate my lunch off a toilet seat I would be more bacteria free than eating it off my desk. On the bright side, luckily I am a man because "women have three to four times the number of bacteria in, on and around their desks, phones, computers, keyboards, drawers and personal items as men do." The reason for this is women have more places for bacteria to hide; knickknacks, cosmetics, hand lotions and food, all things found in and around a woman's desk. Sometimes I will bring licorice to work to eat throughout the day; I will take out a few pieces, eat one and put the others on my desk. I try to keep the others pieces off the paper and files on my desk so I don't have little pieces of candy suck to them, but after reading this article none of my food will touch my desk, ever.
Professor Gerba offers this advise to combat this big bacteria blight, "using a hand sanitizer and using a disinfectant on office surfaces helps, with 25 percent fewer bacteria found on surfaces that were regularly disinfected. Once-a-day use should be sufficient. 'You don't have to go crazy with it, but with the key areas, desktops, phones and keyboards probably need to be disinfected once in a while.'" Needless to say I am bringing a hand sanitizer and disinfectant to work with me tomorrow.

Flash Back Friday - McDonald's

Welcome to this weeks article of Flash Back Friday! When I was looking over last years articles I had to laugh when I stumbled across this one about McDonald's. This really strikes a funny bone for me because in our small town in Kansas our McDonald's has been closed for about 2 months. They completely tore it down and started over. It opened last Sunday. It hasn't even been open a week and let me tell you, they have probably served over 99 billion customers already. It is out of control how constantly busy it is. People didn't seem to be able to handle no McDonald's for 2 months. The next closest McDonald's is a half hour away and so perhaps all these people didn't care to make the drive so their McDonald's cravings have been building up. Anyway, it is pretty funny that people can't seem to live without McDonald's.

How many people really have been to McDonald's?

Some McDonald's signs say "Millions and Billions served" others just say "Billions Served" and some like this sign give an actual number.

In the blogosphere visitors (traffic) are a huge thing for the survival of our websites. We speak of unique visitors compared with return visitors, or subscribers. I love my subscribers and appreciate all the return visitors I get. A place like McDonald's would only be able to survive with return visitors, people who keep coming back multiple times. My question about McDonald's is this: How many people have really been to McDonald's? When your sign says 99 billion served, that is repeat business. How many unique visitors have they actually received? If only there were a site meter at McDonald's, then we might know the answer to this question. I'm afraid the answer to this question will be left up in the air through the ages.

Flashback Friday- Making Money!

Welcome to this weeks edition of Flashback Friday! Last year at this time I was very "gung ho" about making money. I was using several different programs and every month my revenue increased, and things were awesome. Since my page rank catastrophe in November I have not had one single offer. Having a page rank of zero is nothing special because that's what most people have. As you can tell from my lack of posting that I'm really struggling with this. Some days I was to completely give up and other days I want to try, but I don't know what to try. I have decided we will keep doing Mythbusting Monday and Flashback Friday until I can get myself back to wanting to succeed on the internet. Any comments or suggestions to help my situation would be greatly appreciated.

Blogsvertise

There are a couple blogs that I regularly check that are about making money on the internet. These blogs tend to give updates on how they are doing and how much money they make from each site they are members of. A common name among them is Blogsvertise. This is a site where you get paid to post. Once approved you will have offers given to you. You write posts about these offers and mention them with a link three times in your post and then Blogsvertise pays you. I have chosen to get paid by paypal as it is the easiest thing for me. Since I am new I can't rate this positively or negatively, but it is worth a shot. It seems an easy enough way to earn a little extra money. I would recommend checking out Blogsvertise if you are looking for another way to earn money with your blog. Also, as with most programs if you refer people you receive a percentage of their earnings as well. So if you'd like to help me out with a referral use this link for Blogsvertise.

I now invite you to add a comment and feel free to link to your favorite Flashback Friday post on your blog. Pick your favorite article from this week one year ago and write a little bit about what you were thinking, or doing then and how things are different now. Happy Flashback Friday!

Flashback Friday- Vacation

Welcome to this week's edition of Flashback Friday! Last year at this time we were on vacation in Boston with all of my husband's family because his brother got married. It was a very fun vacation. It was our first time to Boston so we had a good time seeing all the historical sights.

Boston's Freedom Trail

On December 28 was our family's first day of touring downtown Boston. We decided to do the Freedom Trail since that would take us to the most popular sights. This first picture is us driving past Fenway Park. We didn't stop or look around, just drove by.

This is Paul Revere's grave.
This is Paul Revere's house. It was very interesting to go inside. I loved all the furniture and such that was inside.
Also on the freedom trail was the Capital building, Boston Massacre site, Old South Church, Faneuil Hall (which was very pretty inside, and had very interesting artifacts from history and signatures of past presidents and other important people) and the Old North Church. We were very excited to see the old North Church because it was on the end of National Treasure.

It was very interesting and inspiring to see the beginning foundations of our country. I couldn't help but get a little teary eyed knowing I was walking where some of this country's founding fathers walked. It was a very memorable experience and I'm glad to have shared it with my family.

Flashback Friday - Random

Welcome to this weeks edition of Flashback Friday! Every Friday Random Encounters of We re-publishes an article from that week one year ago. This weeks article was when the Random Revolution started. In this article we talked about a few other "random" themed blogs that we run. These blogs are still around today. Random Games has become very popular and hopefully will be getting a face lift soon. Random Super Heroes has its moments when it is busy and moments it is slow. That blog belongs to my husband so he writes on it when he has time and a subject. It is a lot of fun though. Check them out and let me know what you think.

Random

I currently am the author of two blogs. The first being Random Encounters of We. This blog is like the title claims, random. I have funny pictures, polls, money making tips, and articles on whatever strikes my fancy. I can't narrow this blog down to one topic. When I list in a blog directory I put it under Misc. So it is my misc blog.

The second blog is very new and it is a game blog. It's name is Random Games. Come play away your day! Free online games of all types are there for your playing enjoyment. I used to put games on Random Encounters of We but decided I didn't like them being there, they didn't fit with what I am trying to achieve.

Random Encounters of We is my "mother ship" blog. I am slowly expanding (Random Games) and my husband is expanding with some type of super hero/comic blog ( Random Super Heroes). It is new but it has a few things to check out on it.

Now is the time I invited you to share your Flashback Friday. Leave a link in the comment section to the article you would like to flashback in on your blog.

Flashback Friday

I thought this article was very fitting with the beginning of December upon us. I haven't started working on Christmas cards yet because I have been baking for 4 days. Today I will get most of the plate delivered and then I can start on Christmas cards. I love receiving picture cards with the update on everyone in the family. I usually keep those. When we get store bought cards with a cheesy note inside, those get thrown away after Christmas. We personally don't send out too many Christmas cards. We don't know too many people and the friends that live near get a goodie plate and they see us all the time so we don't send them cards. Reading this flashback article brought back some great memories of the Christmas party. I am looking forward to going to the Christmas party this year with a new company. I don't know if it will be as fancy as our last company and it is going to be held at a country club, so that is less exciting that a car museum, but it should be a good time! It is fun to be looking back to life a year ago! We don't go on too many baby free dates because we don't mind having her with us. The Christmas party this year will also be a child free event so that will be nice.

Let the Holiday Fun Begin

Well now it's December. You know what that means? It's time for the Christmas cards to start arriving, and Holiday parties to commence! My husband and I recently graduated from college and started "real" life. Now that he is a corporate man working for the man we have our first company holiday party to attend tomorrow evening! I for one am very excited! It is a very formal occasion, luckily for the cruise we just went on I bought a formal dress, so I'm glad to have a second opportunity to wear it. There will be cocktails, dinner and dancing until midnight. Sounds so romantic. This is also be the first real "date" we have been on since having our baby. I look forward to an evening with adults, and adult conversations and being able to stay out past 7 (baby's bedtime). It is at a Car museum, so I'll be sure to take a cool photo or two to share. I'd love to hear about any holiday functions you are attending this year! Merry Christmas!

Now it is your turn, if you would like, to leave a comment leaving a link to your favorite article from a year ago. Let us enjoy your flash back!

Flashback Friday - Survey's

This is our first week doing flashback Friday and I'm very excited about it. Last year at this time our blog was only a few weeks old and our primary purpose was talking about money. I wrote this article about the different survey companies I participate in. Now reading this article a year later I can say I still participate in these three companies. Now is the time of year when I usually cash out to help pay for Christmas presents, but this year I decided not to. I'm going to leave the points in my account and save them up. We are hoping to go on a cruise in a year so I'm going to keep taking surveys and collecting the points and then when I need help paying for the cruise I will cash out. Our Christmas presents haven't been too expensive this year. That is why I changed my normal plan. Once again, if you have any other survey sites that aren't scams, I'd love to hear about them. Happy Flashback Friday!

Are the "make money by taking surveys online" scams?

I would say most of these paid survey sites are scams. A lot of these sites want you to pay them anywhere from $25 up and they will give you a list of survey websites that pay you for taking surveys. A couple years ago when I was in college I fell for this and I paid $35 to get this magical list filled with money making opportunities. After joining about 100 survey websites, I figured out that I had been scammed out of $35. I emailed the website I had paid and demanded a refund. They did refund my money, while all the while I was still enrolled in these survey sites. I participated in as many surveys I could in hopes of receiving check after check. The checks never came so I slowly opted out of a lot of the sites. 3 years later my survey list is down to 3 that I participate in regularly and I do receive money.
The first website is Lightspeed Consumer Panel. At this site you take surveys for points (on average about 75 pts per survey) when you get a certain number of points you can cash in for gifts, gift cards, electronics, and money via paypal. For example to get $10 on paypal (which you can transfer into your bank account) is costs 1150 points. I usually save up my points until Christmas time and then cash in to help pay for my presents. This year I choose not to cash in but if I would have cashed in last December I would have gotten $40 which is 4600 points. It isn't much and it took me 11 months, but it is money that I haven't had to work very hard for and its better than nothing.
The second website is MySurvey . This website also does points for surveys but the point to money ratio is a lot better. Here 1000 points is equal to $10. This website sends you a check. If I would have cashed in my points I would have gotten $50 for my 5000 points. Here you can also cash in for other things such as gifts, electronics, tools, a grill, you can also donate to a charity with your points, it is great!
The third website doesn't give you points, it only enters you into a raffle and they have like 25 winners a month or so. Oh I should mention the other two sites also do raffles on top of the point system for more chances to win things. The third website is NPD Online Research . I take these surveys because I don't mind doing it. They only take about 5-10 minutes and so it isn't a big deal to me that I'm only getting a "chance" to win. Last May I did win $100 which they sent in check form after having been a member and taking surveys for 2+ years, so it balanced out with about as much money as I'm making with the other sites.
None of these sites will get you rich quick, I haven't figured out how to do that yet, but they will get you about an extra $100 a year which is nice for some mad money. And all of you may have more qualifying factors in your life to provide you with more surveys. You fill out a little questionnaire about yourself so they know what surveys apply to you, so everyone's opportunities are different. I don't drink or smoke or have pets or have multiple cars or many kids and so there's only so much to ask me, others with those things probably get more surveys than I do. I hope this helps and will provide you with a little extra money. If you have some other good surveys sites I'd love to know about them!!

I'd like to invite you now to leave a comment and you can include a link to your favorite Flashback Friday article on your blog! I will be making a button this week for Flashback Friday and everyone who participates in welcome to take the button and put it on their site to advertise Flashback Friday!
