Carnival Of Cinema

It has been a while since we have participated in a blog carnival, but we entered our post about the movie Meet the Robinson's in the Carnival of Cinema. Go check out the carnival and maybe it'll give you some good movie ideas for this weekend! We are planning on seeing Spider-Man 3 tonight and we are very excited. We'll be sure to update you on that movie.

Meet the Robinson's

Last night we took the girls to Meet the Robinson's. Now I watch a lot of Disney channel with my daughter and so I have seen a lot of previews and behind the scene things of this movie and I honestly wasn't looking forward to seeing it. We chose that movie because it was the only cartoon play at the theater and my daughter would only sit through a cartoon. The movie from the previews didn't look very good, but after seeing the movie, I love it! There are fun and interesting twist and turns throughout the movie. Some of the other people I saw the movie with were figuring out the plot while the movie went along but I didn't. I was trying to figure it out, I was enjoying just sitting and watching and not thinking about it. It was a very fun movie with a lot of fun surprises. I think when this one comes out on DVD I definitely want to purchase it. For some reason it kept being talked about in my family in regards to The Incredible. People were saying, "I like it more (or less) than The Incredibles." I didn't like The Incredibles so I really liked it more, but my husband loves The Incredibles so he didn't think it was better, but he did think it was a good movie. Anyway, it is totally a flick I recommend, very family friendly and fun to watch.

Ocean's 13

One of my favorite movies is coming out with another sequel, Ocean's 13. I just saw the trailer on the quicktime site and it looks pretty good. I loved Ocean's Eleven, it was great to have the whole movie be the setup for the BIG job. In Ocean's 12 the focus seemed to be more on the stress of repaying "Benedict" instead of the jobs to get the money; and when it came down to it all they had to do was the old backpack switch-a-ru. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed this movie too but I love movies that go through all the details of what they are going to do before they do it. This latest installment to the Ocean trilogy looks like they have a lot of fun pulling off whatever job they have planned. One of the greatest things about all these Ocean movies is that all the original actors are still playing their same characters. To me there is nothing worse than making a sequel and having one, or more, of the lead roles played by someone other than the original actor. Ocean's 13 comes out June 8th, I can't wait to see it.

Stranger Than Fiction

I'm sorry for having two movie posts right next to each other. I didn't plan on writing about My Super Ex- Girlfriend but the movie literally just ended and I felt it my duty to warn people. Stranger than Fiction is what my husband and I saw on our date this past weekend. I used to dislike Will Ferrell very much. It wasn't until Elf came to be that I changed my views and started to like him. I also loved Bewitched. So I was very excited to see Stranger than Fiction. This movie is about an author (Emma Thompson) writing a story about a "fictional" character Harold Crick (Will Ferrell) who isn't fictional at all. As he goes about his daily life as an IRS agent he can hear her narrating the story of his life. He goes to a psychiatrist who tells him he is crazy and then ends up talking to a professor of literature (Dustin Hoffman) who helps him figure this thing out. The problem is, the author of his story is known for killing off the heroes in her books and so Harold Crick is next to die. They eventually meet and sort out the details (I'll let you find out if he lives or dies). This seems to be a very original idea. It was nice to finally see a movie that wasn't a sequel or a remake, but this movie was just painful to sit through. There were some morbid parts as Emma Thompson's character would imagine how to kill off Harold Crick. Some not so great acting by a couple members of the cast. I did enjoy Harold's girlfriend Ana Pascal(played by Maggie Gyllenhal). I didn't enjoy the number game that kept going on. I know if was to just show how into number Harold Crick was because he was an IRS agent, but it was just painful for me and got old quickly. It didn't seem very funny. At one point I leaned over to my husband and ask if this movie was a comedy or if it was serious, I couldn't tell, I still don't know. Over all this movie gets a C-, at best. It definitely wasn't as bad as my super ex-girlfriend (check out that post for more). If you have any other views to add to my perspective I'd love to hear them.

My Super Ex-Girlfriend

Today in this post for these next few minutes I am a super hero! My job: to protect the world from seeing this film. For those of you who are too late to hear the warning, I'm very sorry. For those of you where it isn't too late... RUN! Run for your life. Stay away from this film at Blockbuster. This film is 95 minutes of your life you'll never get back. I can't even put into words the disgust and waste of everything this film is. The only positive thing about this movie is Luke Wilson. This film is chalk full of nothing but inappropriateness (major bedroom movie) which I for one am very not interested in feeing! It is just horrible, I don't know how else to put it. There aren't very many other way to put it other than terrible! Stay away. Rent something else!!

Deck the Halls

If you are sitting at home on this beautiful Friday afternoon thinking about what you want to do tonight and you are thinking that a movie sounds fun, here's a suggestion. DON'T see Deck the Halls. We saw it last night. I thought it would be so funny and we love Kristin Chenoweth from Broadway's Wicked so we see every movie that she is in, but this show was awful. There was a funny part every once in a while, but for the most part it was lame. Plus you get cleavage shoved down your throat from Kristin the entire movie. I guess we should have listen to the critics who gave this movie a D because it certainly deserved it! In case you were wondering, reviews from normal people like you and me gave it a C according to yahoo movies.

Got Melk?

As Thanksgiving approaches, I recall last year. I had just had a baby so we weren't going to be traveling to our families houses. I was going to make my first turkey. As we prepared our Thanksgiving feast and the turkey came out of the oven looking beautifully golden brown, horror suddenly struck me. What if this turkey turns out like the turkey on National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. What if my husband cut into the turkey and it exploded open. In the movie everyone has some turkey but they are crunching it and gnawing on it. I was very nervous as the time came for my husband to carve the turkey. Lucky the turkey did not explode. It was moist as it should have been. I was very relieved at having a great first experience making my first Thanksgiving dinner. As you also may remember from the movie those glorious "melk mugs." You may get a tingle during the holidays that eggnog would just taste so much better if only you had it in a moose mug. Now you can have one. So enjoy your holidays to the fullest, and bring on the eggnog!
