YES on Prop 8 Video

For everyone interested (which should be everyone because this affects all of us) Here is a movie about all issues regarding Prop. 8. How this isn't just a battle over same sex marriage, it is also a battle over abuse of powers. Supreme Court judges do not have the right to speak for the people, that is not their job. Please take a look at this video regarding why you should vote YES on prop. 8. It is about 30 minutes so please allow for that when you start it. Thanks!! Happy voting!

First of all, I do apologies for posting twice on your blog without properly introducing myself. My name is Becky and I have been legally married to my lovely wife for the last 4 months. We were engaged for a year and a half while we planned a beautiful wedding, a cake, two beautiful dresses, everything that a girl dreams of. The day before our wedding (5/17/8) we heard on the news that our marriage would be legal in exactly one month. Serendipitous! We were so surprised that we would be able to have the same rights and the title of marriage, just like our heterosexual sisters. We were happy to get married without the legal protections that marriage allows (1400 rights , that’s the difference between the domestic partnership and marriage) Opportunity was knocking and we happily answered. It was an amazing feeling to for once have the government willing to protect your union. For these reasons this subject is very dear to me therefore I speak out.

I am a preschool teacher and every school that I have worked at has had children from different families. (1 mom, 2 moms, only a grandparent raising the kids) I have never heard a teacher tell a student that if they do not have the right amount of parents, the correct sex, then he is wrong and thus should be ashamed. These values, as well as the religious values, should be taught in the home by whatever amount of mommies and daddies the children have. Children should be taught its ok to be different, let them go and make their own decisions.

The schools will not be teaching the children that gay’s are any better than any other person, merely tolerance. The schools were divided until 1954 when the Supreme court ruled that it was unlawful to discriminate against black students. The schools never taught that black people were any better then white people, merely that they are just the same as everyone else. This is what prop 8 will do, the children who have two mommies will feel safe at a school where they do teach that their family is just the same as the family down the road who has only one mommy. Prop 8 will protect the old definition of marriage that was taken out of the Christian bible. If there truly is a separation from church and state then this law will not pass.

As far as “Gay Day” , I pray for a day when we will not have to have pride parades and the rainbow flag will merely mean a rainbow not a symbol of togetherness in a world that hates us. Someday we will not need to have special allowances/flags/day’s because the world will see that I am just the same as my heterosexual sister. We pay our taxes and go to church and want to raise our children with the same protection as everyone else.

Please do not let California be the 28th state to adopt hateful and bigoted leslitation. Everyone deserves the same rights as the next person, prop 8 is hateful and a waste of taxpayer money.

Thank you for letting me speak out on your forum, I will leave you in peace and with words spoken by German Pastor Martin Niemöller:

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

I appreciate and respect your view Becky, but I 100% disagree with you. I do not think that I am a bigot. I do not hate you nor do I hate any homosexual person. I do think that the relationship you have with a person of the same gender is appropriate.

God ordained marriage to be between one man and one woman. It is also a law of nature. Reproduction happens between a male and female.

I ask you to please watch the movie. Even though you are opposed to my side of the issue, I think the movie is informative.

This fight is not only about gay marriage but about an abuse of powers. When judges start being legislative bad things happen. Those judges need to be put back in their place. Even if they had made some other decision they need to learn that it is not their place to change whatever laws they want. The fact is california voted on this in 2000 and it completely passed by an overwhelming 61%.

This fight is also about religious freedom. If this doesn't pass then my church and many others will be stifled. Because my church does not allow homosexual marriages to be performed inside the buildings, that church will then be sued. How fair is that? I think it completely inappropriate to sue a church for its beliefs. We must have beliefs.

The movie is able to more fully explain why this is a horrible possibility. I do not mean you any hate, nor do I wish you to feel that your rights are being stripped, but I feel domestic partnerships should be sufficient.
